Resource Planning (Project Planning): Frequently Asked Questions

This article answers common questions about Resource Planning, called Project Planning in BusyBusy. These questions cover how project plans behave, how they interact with Scheduling, and what to expect when making changes.

Do I need Resource Planning to use Scheduling?

No.

Scheduling can be used on its own without Resource Planning.

Resource Planning is an optional tool that helps teams plan work ahead of time and then send those plans into Scheduling when ready.

Do project plans automatically schedule employees or equipment?

No.

Creating a project plan or adding tasks does not schedule work automatically.

Employees and equipment are scheduled only after tasks are requested and approved through Scheduling (if that workflow is enabled).

Can I use Resource Planning without Scheduling?

Yes.

When creating a project plan, you can choose to:

  • Email employee and equipment requests

  • Instantly approve requests without Scheduling

These options allow Resource Planning to be used for planning or forecasting without scheduling inside BusyBusy.

Do I have to request every task?

No.

Tasks can remain in Draft status until you’re ready to schedule them.

This allows you to build and adjust plans over time before sending requests.

Can I edit a task after it has been requested?

Yes.

Tasks can still be edited after being requested.

If a task is already linked to Scheduling, BusyBusy will display a prompt to help you decide how changes should affect existing schedules.

What happens if I move a task that’s already scheduled?

If a task has already been scheduled and you move it, BusyBusy will show a warning.

You’ll be given options for how to handle existing schedule items before the change is applied.

Do template changes affect existing project plans?

No.

Editing a task template or task group template does not update tasks that already exist in project plans.

Template changes apply only to future uses.

Can I delete a project plan?

Yes.

Project plans can be deleted by users with the Manage Project Plans permission.

Deleting a project plan removes it from Project Planning but does not automatically delete existing schedules.

Why can’t I see Project Planning?

If you don’t see Project Planning:

  • The Manage Project Plans permission may not be enabled for your position

  • You may not have the required Scheduling permissions

  • Resource Planning may not be included in your current plan

An administrator can review permissions or contact BusyBusy Support for help.

Is Resource Planning available on mobile?

No.

Resource Planning (Project Planning) is currently available in the BusyBusy web app only.
