Resource Planning — called Project Planning in BusyBusy — allows teams to plan projects before work begins by breaking work into tasks and identifying the employees and equipment needed to complete them.
When to Use Resource Planning
Use Resource Planning when you want to:
Plan work ahead of time instead of reacting day to day.
Break projects into clear, manageable tasks.
Forecast labor and equipment needs.
Coordinate scheduling across multiple projects.
Reduce conflicts like overbooked crews or equipment.
How Resource Planning Works
At a high level, Resource Planning follows this flow:
Create a Project Plan for an existing project.
Add tasks and task groups to define the work.
Assign expected employee counts and equipment.
Send resource requests to Scheduling (optional).
Review and approve schedules tied to the plan.
This creates a direct connection between planning and scheduling without duplicate data entry.

How Resource Planning Connects to Scheduling
Project Planning is designed to work closely with BusyBusy Scheduling.
Depending on how a project plan is set up, tasks can:
Send employee and equipment requests directly into Scheduling.
Be scheduled manually outside of BusyBusy.
Be instantly approved without scheduling.
When tasks are sent to Scheduling, schedulers can review requests, assign employees and equipment, and notify workers. All while keeping the project plan up to date.
Who Can Use Resource Planning
Access to Project Planning is controlled by permissions.
Users must have the Manage Project Plans permission enabled to create, edit, or delete project plans.
Because Project Planning connects directly to Scheduling, full scheduling permissions must be granted. Users must be able to edit schedules for all positions.
Resource Planning Availability
Resource Planning is part of BusyBusy’s Operations Module, which includes tools designed to help teams plan, schedule, and coordinate work more effectively.

Resource Planning can be used as part of the full Operations Module or purchased on its own, depending on your company’s needs.
