Manage Certification Types

Before employees can add or renew their certifications, your company first needs to create certification types in BusyBusy. Certification types define the kinds of licenses, trainings, and qualifications you want to track, such as Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), OSHA 10-Hour, or Forklift Operator Certification.

Create a Certification Type (Web)

  1. Sign in to BusyBusy on the web.

  2. From the sidebar, go to Verification → Certification Status.

  3. In the Certification Status view, click the Certifications button at the top

  4. Select + New to create a certification type.

  5. Fill out the details:

    • Name – The title of the certification (e.g., Forklift Operator Certification).

    • Description – A short explanation of what the certification covers.

    • Renewal Required – Check this box if the certification expires and must be renewed periodically (e.g., CDL, OSHA 10). If unchecked, the certification never expires. BusyBusy will calculate the expiration date for employee certificates based on the renewal time requirement.

    • Employee Managed – Allow employees to add/renew this certification themselves from their mobile device. If unchecked, only admins can manage it.

    • Documentation Required – Require users to upload proof of certification (JPG, PNG, PDF, or DOCX file).

  6. Select Create to save the certification type.

The new certification type will now appear in your list and can be assigned to employees.

Edit or Delete Certification Types

To Edit Certification Types:

  • click the Certifications button at the top select the certification type update the details select Submit.

To Delete Certification Types:

  • click the Certifications button at the top open the certification type select Delete.

Deleting a certification type will also remove all associated employee records and uploaded documents.

Best Practices

  • Create certification types for all licenses, safety trainings, or qualifications your company must track.

  • Use clear, consistent names (e.g., “OSHA 30-Hour Construction” instead of “OSHA30”).

  • Check Renewal Required for time-limited certifications. This ensures employees and managers get reminders 30 days, 10 days, and on the day of expiration to renew before they lapse.

  • Enable Employee Managed for certifications like OSHA 10/30 that employees are responsible for maintaining.

  • Require documentation when legal proof is necessary, such as a CDL or crane operator license.

Tip: Once certification types are created, you can assign them as requirements for equipment. This ensures only certified employees can be scheduled or clock in with that equipment.
