Why Can’t I Add a Safety Event to my Project Plan? (Troubleshooting)

This article outlines the most common reasons adding a Safety Event isn't working and how to fix them.

If you’re unable to add a safety event in Resource Planning, it’s usually due to a missing setup step or plan configuration.

Ensure your company has access to BusyBusy Safety Inspections and/or Safety Trainings.

⚠️Safety Events are only available for customers using both Resource Planning and Safety (Inspections or Trainings).

Safety Events Are Not Enabled

Safety events must be enabled in the project plan before they can be added.

How to Fix

  1. Go to Scheduling → Project Planning

  2. Open or locate your project plan

  3. Click Edit Plan

  4. Find Safety Event Requests

  5. Select an option other than Off

  6. Click Submit

If Safety Event Requests is set to Off, you will not be able to add safety events.

The Task Is Not in a Task Group

Safety events can only be added to tasks that are part of a Task Group.

How to Fix

  • Add the task to an existing Task Group

  • Or create a new Task Group and move the task into it

Once the task is inside a Task Group, the option to add a safety event will be available.

You’re Trying to Add a Safety Event to a Standalone Task

Safety events are not available on standalone tasks.

How to Fix

  • Move the task into a Task Group

Then use the task’s menu to add the safety event.

You Don’t See the “Add Safety Event” Option

If the option is missing from the task menu (⋮), it is usually due to one of the following:

  • Safety Events are not enabled in the project plan

  • The task is not inside a Task Group

Review the sections above to resolve the issue.

You Don’t Have the Required Permissions

You must have access to Safety Inspections and Trainings to add safety events.

How to Fix

  • Contact your admin to confirm your permissions

  • Ensure you have access to Safety features

Summary

If you can’t add a safety event, check the following:

  • Safety Events are enabled in the project plan.

  • The task is inside a Task Group.

  • You are not using a standalone task.

  • You have the correct permissions.
