Transfer or Uncouple a GPS Device (Web & Mobile)

You can transfer a GPS device from one piece of equipment to another, or uncouple (disconnect) it entirely. This article explains how to: Transfer a GPS device to different equipment Uncouple a GPS device from equipment

Permission Required: Users must have the Manage Equipment permission to transfer or uncouple GPS devices.

Transfer a GPS Device

You may need to transfer a GPS device if it was previously assigned to the wrong equipment or if you are moving the device to a different machine.

Transfer a GPS Device (Web)

Steps:

  1. Go to Management Lists

  2. Click Equipment

  3. Select the equipment you want to assign the GPS device to

  4. Click the Tracking Device field

  5. Select the ESN from the dropdown

If the GPS device is already assigned to another piece of equipment, you will see a warning message.

  1. Choose Transfer Device to confirm

The GPS device will now be coupled to the new equipment and removed from the previous one.

Transfer a GPS Device (Mobile)

Steps:

  1. Open the BusyBusy app

  2. Tap Equipment

  3. Select the equipment you want to assign the device to

  4. Tap the gear icon in the top right


  5. Scroll to Device Tracking

  6. Enable the toggle (if not already enabled)

  7. Select the ESN

If the device is already assigned to another piece of equipment, you will see a transfer warning.

  1. Confirm the transfer

  2. Tap Done in the top right

The GPS device will now be connected to the new equipment.

Uncouple (Disconnect) a GPS Device

Uncoupling removes the GPS device from a piece of equipment without assigning it to another one.

Uncouple a GPS Device (Web)

Steps:

  1. Go to Management Lists

  2. Click Equipment

  3. Select the equipment

  4. Click the Tracking Device field

  5. Disable or remove the assigned GPS device



  6. Click Save



The GPS device will no longer report location data to that equipment.


Uncouple a GPS Device (Mobile)

Steps:

  1. Open the BusyBusy app

  2. Tap Equipment

  3. Select the equipment

  4. Tap the gear icon in the top right

  5. Scroll to Device Tracking

  6. Turn the toggle off

  7. Tap Done in the top right

The GPS device is now uncoupled.

Installation Time Reminder

If you are transferring a GPS device that has already been physically installed on a different machine:

  • Update the Installation Date & Time to reflect when it was installed on the new equipment.

This ensures accurate location history.

Important Notes

  • Transferring a GPS device automatically removes it from the previously assigned equipment.

  • Once uncoupled, new location data will no longer appear for that equipment.

  • Previously recorded location history remains associated with the equipment it was originally assigned to.


Frequently Asked Questions

Can I assign one GPS device to multiple pieces of equipment?

No. A GPS device can only be coupled to one piece of equipment at a time.

What happens to location history after I transfer a device?

Historical location data remains with the equipment it was originally assigned to. New location data will appear under the new equipment after transfer.

Do I need to physically reinstall the device before transferring?

If the device is physically being moved to another machine, make sure it is installed before updating the Installation Date & Time.
