What You See on the Timeline
The Project Planning timeline displays:
Planned projects.
Tasks and task groups within each project.
Start and end dates for planned work.
A visual representation of duration and overlap.
Each project appears as a row, with tasks and task groups displayed beneath it.
The Today Indicator
A vertical blue line on the timeline represents today’s date.
This makes it easy to:
See what work is upcoming.
Identify tasks currently in progress.
Compare planned work against the current date.
The today indicator updates automatically.
Timeline Zoom Controls
You can zoom in or out on the timeline to change how much time is visible.
Zooming allows you to:
View short-term plans in more detail.
Look further into the future for long-term planning.
Adjust the timeline to fit your planning needs.
Zoom controls affect only your view and do not change project data.
Timeline Views and Filters
Project Planning includes multiple views and filters to help you focus on specific work.
You can:
Switch between available timeline views.
Filter projects based on your planning needs.
Focus on specific projects or time ranges.
Filters make it easier to manage plans when working with multiple projects.
Sorting Projects on the Timeline
Planned projects can be sorted using the three-dot menu at the project level.
Sorting options include:
Alphabetical order.
Project Start Date.
Sorting affects how projects are displayed on the timeline and does not change project data.
How Tasks and Task Groups Appear
Tasks and task groups are displayed visually on the timeline:
Tasks appear as individual bars.
Task groups appear as a parent bar with tasks listed underneath.
Task duration determines the length of each bar.
Task groups reflect the combined timing of their subtasks.
Interacting with the Timeline
The timeline is interactive and allows for quick adjustments.
You can:
Click on tasks to view details.
Drag tasks or task groups to shift dates.
Scroll to specific tasks using task actions.
These interactions help teams adapt plans as schedules change.
