Automatic Breaks eliminate the need for employees or supervisors to manually log breaks, helping you save time and improve break record consistency. This article shows you how to enable and configure Automatic Breaks in your account by employee position.
What Are Automatic Breaks?
Automatic Breaks let you pre-set break rules that BusyBusy applies automatically to employee timecards. You can configure:
When breaks happen (after a set number of hours, or at a scheduled time)
Which employees receive automatic breaks (configured by position)
Whether to send notifications when a break is applied
How to Set It Up
Go to Settings → Positions
Select the position you want to apply Automatic Breaks to
Scroll to the Break section (found under Other)
Click on Breaks
Using the Break Mode dropdown menu, select your preferred Automatic Break method, either Automatic (Interval) or Automatic (Set Times)
After X hours worked (interval-based), or
At a specific time of day (scheduled-based)
Save changes
Important Note: Currently, it is only possible to set 30-minute break durations when configuring automatic breaks. |
You can repeat this process for any other positions that require different break configurations.
What Happens After You Enable It?
When an employee meets the configured condition, a break is automatically recorded on their timecard
If notifications are enabled, the employee will receive an alert (mobile or web) letting them know it’s break time
Breaks are added directly to their daily time record without manual input
Who Can Configure This?
Only users with Admin permissions can set or modify Automatic Breaks by position.
| Important Note on ComplianceAutomatic Breaks are a helpful tracking tool, but they do not prove that an employee actually took a break. For teams operating in high-compliance regions (like California), we recommend pairing this feature with:
