Custom Field Data in Custom Payroll Export (Web)

The Custom Payroll Export feature in BusyBusy gives you the flexibility to export payroll data in a format that meets your company’s needs, including data from Custom Fields you’ve added to Employees, Projects, Cost Codes, or Equipment.

This article explains how to include Custom Field data when creating a new custom payroll export or editing an existing one.

Good to know:

  • Only on the web app.

  • Only Admin can create or edit Custom Payroll Exports.

  • Customer Fields must first be created under Manage Custom Fields to appear as selectable options.

Steps to Include Custom Fields in a Custom Payroll Export

1. Navigate to Payroll

  • From the main menu, click Payroll.

  • Click the green Export Payroll button.

2. Choose Advanced Export

  • In the Select Type dropdown, choose Advanced.

3. Edit or Create a Custom Format

  • In the Format dropdown, choose:

    • Create Custom Format to make a new export, or

    • Select an existing format, then click Edit to modify it.

4. Add Custom Field Data

  • In the left panel, locate the Custom Fields you want to include:

    • Employee Custom Fields are listed under the Employee section.

    • Project, Cost Code, and Equipment Custom Fields are under Job Costing.

  • Check the boxes next to the Custom Field labels you want. Selected fields will appear in the middle panel.

5. Configure Columns (Optional)

  • Remove unwanted columns by clicking the three dots next to a column name and selecting Remove Row.

  • Rename columns under the Column Name field (this is how they will appear in the CSV file).

  • Reorder columns by dragging them using the double-line handle.

6. Save and Export

  • Once configured, click Submit to save the custom format.

  • To export using this format:

    • Select the saved custom format from the Format dropdown.

    • Click Export to download the payroll data as a CSV file.

And that’s it! With Custom Payroll Export, you can make sure your payroll reports include what your team needs, including any Custom Field data you’ve added. Whether you're building something new or tweaking an existing export, you've got the tools to keep things smooth and accurate.
