Companies can require employees to enter a Description before completing certain time-entry actions. This can help ensure important details about work performed, progress made, delays encountered, or other job notes are recorded and attached to the employee's time entry before they clock-out or switch jobs.
Enable Require Descriptions
Steps:
From the left navigation menu go to Settings.
Select Positions.
Click on the position you would like to configure.
Scroll down to the Other section.
Click Require Description.
Check the Require Description box.
Click Update.
Once enabled, employees assigned to that position will be required to enter a description before completing certain time-entry actions.
When Employees Are Prompted for a Description
When Require Descriptions is enabled, employees must enter a description before completing the following actions:
Clock Out
Switch
Clock Out At
Group Clock Out actions
If a description is not entered, the employee will be prompted to add one before the action can be completed.
How Descriptions Are Used
Descriptions are attached directly to the employee's time entry.
Many companies use descriptions to record:
Work completed during the shift.
Progress made on a task or project.
Delays or job site issues.
Equipment concerns.
Safety observations.
General notes for supervisors or office staff.
Because descriptions are stored with the time entry, they provide additional context when reviewing employee time records.
