Autofill is available when creating or editing any budget. When working with cost codes, Autofill determines whether your overall project totals update automatically based on the cost code values you enter, or whether you want to enter totals manually.
How Autofill Works
Autofill ON
When Autofill is turned on, BusyBusy automatically updates your project totals based on the values you enter for each cost code.
For example:
If you add 200 labor hours for Excavation, 150 labor hours for Grading and 50 labor hours for Rock Stabilization your total project labor hours will automatically update to 400 hours.
The same applies to labor costs if that column is enabled:
Labor cost totals update automatically based on the cost code amounts you enter.
Autofill ON is ideal when you want your total budget to be driven directly by the detailed cost code entries.
Autofill OFF
When Autofill is turned off, you can manually enter the total project hours or costs, independent of the cost code breakdown.
This is useful when:
You want to round up or add buffer time.
You want a simplified overall budget but still want to track tasks individually.
Your total planned hours differ from the sum of individual cost code estimates.
Autofill OFF gives you full control over setting total project numbers manually.
When to Use Autofill
We recommend you turn Autofill ON when:
You want accurate task-level budgeting.
Your totals should match the cost codes exactly.
You’re creating detailed job budgets with cost codes.
You want totals to calculate automatically as you go.
We recommend you turn Autofill OFF when:
You’re entering a simple hours-only budget.
Adding cost codes but also want manual project totals.
Your project requires a buffer above your cost code estimates.
You are recreating or editing an existing budget with specific totals.
Where to Find the Autofill Toggle
You’ll see the Autofill toggle in the budget creation and editing screen:
It appears above your Budget Totals area on the right side.
Tip:If you add cost codes to your budget later, you can toggle Autofill ON to instantly recalculate the total project numbers, or keep it OFF to preserve your existing manual totals. |
