Switch Projects, Sub-Projects, Cost Codes, and Equipment (iOS & Android)

Crews switch time between projects, cost codes, and equipment multiple times a day. Lucky for you BusyBusy has a tool that handles these switches with a tap of the finger.

But, how do you switch to a new project, sub-project, cost code, or piece of equipment throughout the day?

The following article will explain what the SWITCH button is for and how to use it.

What is the Switch Button For?

In a typical workday, you might switch between projects, cost codes, and equipment more times than you can count. It can be easy to lose track of what you were doing and how long you were doing it. Luckily, BusyBusy has a handy SWITCH button that helps keep track of your hours spent working on projects, cost codes, and equipment without ever needing to clock out.

The SWITCH button allows you to “switch” your time between different projects, sub-projects, cost codes, and/or equipment while still being clocked in. Your overall time is still being tracked. BusyBusy simply allocates your time to the different jobs and details you worked on.

No need to clock out and then back in, simply click SWITCH, choose your selection(s), and save your choices and that’s it! Then when you're ready to switch again, just repeat the process, it’s that simple!

Having a fast and simple way to switch between job details helps ensure you have accurate job costing data for future bids, that’s why BusyBusy designed their SWITCH button to be fast and painless.

How to Switch Projects, Cost Codes or Equipment on a Mobile Device

Step One: Locating the SWITCH button

  • From your Dashboard, if you’re not already viewing your main clock in screen, then locate the small CLOCK icon in the bottom left corner

  • Tap on the small CLOCK icon

  • If you’re not already clocked in, press the CLOCK IN button and select your job details

    • You can review the steps for clocking in on BusyBusy HERE.

  • Once you’ve fully clocked in, the SWITCH button will appear on your main clock screen.

Step Two: Tap on the SWITCH button

  • Once you’re ready to switch your job details, simply tap on the SWITCH button.

    • Your overall time for the day is still being tracked. Your time is just being switched from working on one project, sub-project, cost code, or piece of equipment to a different one.

Step Three: Select Your Job Details

  • From the Switch screen, you can change your project, sub-project, cost code, and/or equipment information easily by simply clicking on each item and selecting the new job details.

  • Once you’ve updated your job details make sure to select Save (Android) or Done (iOS) in the upper right corner to save your changes.

    • If you need to remove any of the job details, simply click on the X in the upper right corner of the detail you wish to remove, and you will no longer be tracking time to that item. Some job details will be required by your company, and if so, you will have to make a selection for those items.

Understanding Your Clock Timer

The large timer you see is showing the time you’ve spent in the new project/cost code/or equipment you just switched to. The smaller timer underneath is tracking your overall time.

For example, if you worked on the Johnson Home for four hours and then switched to working on the Hudson Home, the large timer would start over at 00:00:00 and start counting up, marking the new time you started at the Hudson Home. The small timer underneath the large timer would show 04:00:00 and counting. This is your overall time for the day.

How to Use the Switch At Button

You can make as many switches throughout the day as you need to. If you happen to forget to switch your time to a new project, sub-project, cost code, or piece of equipment, you can make the correction by using the Switch At button. Or talk to your supervisor. Using their supervisor tools, they will be able to switch your time after the fact for you.

Step One: Locating the Switch At Button

  • From your Dashboard, if you’re not already viewing your main clock in screen, then locate the small CLOCK icon in the bottom left corner.

  • Select the three dots in the upper right corner

  • Select Switch At

  • From the Switch At screen, you can update your project, sub-project, cost code, and/or equipment information easily by simply clicking on each item.

  • Click on Switch Time at the bottom of the screen to select the time the switch was supposed to occur.

  • Once you’ve made your selections make sure to click on Save (Android) or Done (iOS) in the upper right corner to save your changes.

Important Note: Switching is not the same as editing time. Although you can switch between projects, cost codes, and equipment throughout the day, you cannot edit your time entries unless you have the permission to edit time. You can review how to edit time entries on mobile HERE.
