Managing Time Off Types and Settings

The time off feature in BusyBusy allows companies to manage and track employee leave including vacation, sick time, holidays, and more.

Admins now have more control and customization options than ever before. You can:

  • Enable or disable standard time-off types.

  • Create up to five custom time-off categories.

  • Choose whether your company supports Paid, Unpaid, or both.

  • Ensure unpaid requests always include total hours for accurate reporting.

This article explains how to manage time off settings and customize them to fit your company’s policies.

Steps

1. Open Company Settings

  • Sign in to BusyBusy on the web.

  • From the left navigation menu select Settings -> Time Keeping.

2. Choose Your Time-Off Configuration

  • Scroll down to the Time Off section.

  • You’ll see three key options:

    • Allowed Time Off:
Choose whether your company allows Paid, Unpaid, or both.

    • Time-Off Types:
Enable or disable each standard type (Vacation, Sick, Personal, Holiday, Other).

    • Custom Types:
Add up to five additional time-off categories (e.g., Bereavement, Sabbatical, Jury Duty).

3. Enable or Disable Standard Time-Off Types

  • Each standard time-off type includes an option to turn it on/off.

    • Check the box to make a type available for employees to select when submitting requests.

    • Uncheck the box to hide that type from employee view.

Note: Standard types (Vacation, Sick, Personal, Holiday, and Other) cannot be renamed, but you can control whether they are active.

4. Add Custom Time-Off Types

If your company needs additional categories, you can add them as custom types.

  • In the Custom Types section, click an empty slot (Custom 1–Custom 5).

  • Enter a name and a 3-character code (e.g., “Bereavement” and “BRV”).

  • Toggle on to activate the new type.

  • Click Submit to save.

Tip: Review your settings at the start of each year to ensure they match your company policies.
