BusyBusy normally records GPS data while employees are clocked in to help verify work locations and improve reporting. However, some companies need the flexibility to turn GPS tracking off for specific projects.
Why Disable GPS Tracking?
There are several reasons you may need to disable GPS tracking:
State Regulations: In states like California, laws prohibit tracking GPS during paid breaks. Companies often create “Break” projects where GPS must be disabled.
Union Requirements: Some union agreements restrict or forbid GPS tracking on certain jobs.
Privacy Needs: Certain projects may require additional privacy protections, making GPS tracking inappropriate.
When GPS tracking is disabled for a project, all GPS-related features (location flagging, reminders, require on-site clock in, etc.) are also disabled.
Disable GPS Tracking for a Project (Web)
Sign in to BusyBusy on the web.
Management List → Projects (select desired project).
Under Geolocation, locate the Disable GPS Tracking option.
Select Disable GPS Tracking.
A confirmation will explain: “Disabling GPS tracking will stop GPS data from being recorded for any employees clocked in to the project. All GPS-related features will also be disabled for the project.”
Click Disable to confirm.
The project will now run without GPS tracking.
Re-enable GPS Tracking
If you want to turn GPS tracking back on:
Open the project settings.
Under Geolocation, select Enable GPS Tracking.
This will restore GPS functionality, including location flagging and on-site reminders.
Best Practices
Create a dedicated Break Project with GPS disabled if your state requires breaks without GPS tracking.
Confirm union agreements before enabling GPS on union jobs.
Remember that disabling GPS applies to all employees clocked into that project, not just specific individuals.
