Unique OwnerID/FileId error message

This issue can be caused because of a few reasons. Either the company file has been moved from its original location, the un-registration from QuickBooks Web Connector failed, or you no longer have the same computer and are trying to re-install the web connector on your new setup. To fix this, you need to remove the stamp of the existing Owner ID. QuickBooks Web Connector uses the OwnerID and FileID values to identify applications. If these IDs conflict with existing entries, the QBWC1039 error is triggered. Modifying these IDs ensures they are unique, resolving the conflict and allowing the application to be added successfully.

Step 1: Open your QuickBooks Desktop

Step 2: Use the link to download the CP3 tool Before proceeding, ensure you back up the original .qwc file to avoid any data loss during the troubleshooting process.

Step 3: Select file

  • Maneuver to your Downloads folder on the left hand side of the pop up window

  • Single click on the most recent busybusy.qwc file

  • Then select open

Step 4: Remove Stamp

Step 4: Remove Stamp If you are using the CP3 tool, follow the on-screen instructions to remove the Owner ID stamp. Alternatively, you can manually edit the .qwc file:

  • Open Windows/File Explorer and navigate to the folder where the .qwc file is located (usually the Downloads folder).

  • Right-click the .qwc file and select "Open with" to choose a plain-text editor like Notepad.

  • Locate the <OwnerID> and <FileID> lines in the file.

  • Modify the last character or digit inside the curly braces for both values to create unique IDs. For example:

      <FileID>{6904A826-7368-11DC-8317-F7AD55D89593}</FileID>

Change the final digit to create a new ID, e.g., ...9593 → ...9594.

  • Save the file and close the editor.

Step 5: This will generate the QuickBooks Application Certificate pop-up

  • Select Yes, whenever this QuickBooks company file is open

  • Check the box that says: Allow this application to access personal data such as Social Security Numbers and customer credit card information

This is a general permission by QuickBooks to allow the data to be used for payroll purposes. busybusy does not use Social Security Numbers or credit card information.

Step 6: Select Continue

Step 7: Click Yes for the Application Confirmation window

Step 8: On the Access Confirmation window, select Done

Step 9: A message about doing a backup will appear, select OK

Step 10: You’ll get a confirmation that the Owner ID has been removed. Select OK

Step 11: Close the QBWC CP3 Tool

Step 12: Run the Web Connector again
